I believe that there are millions of Christians who feel that there must be something more to Christianity than just going to service every week. They have a burning desire in their heart to know God in a deeper, more intimate way. Unfortunately most churches do not offer a discipleship program, because their focus in not on growing the flock in maturity, but rather growing the flock in numbers (converting "The Lost" to "The Saved").
What happens to the many that pray the prayer but never experience any real change in their lives? What is being done in the church to mature the immature? My experience is not very much. In a nutshell, I have experienced, Pray the Prayer (of Salvation), Attend weekly services, Pay your tithe, Do the right thing and Don't talk about certain things. If the US Military's focus was totally on recruitment and nothing on training we would have a large army incapable of fighting and defending our interests. I have to ask… Why should the church be any different? We must have a plan of action that will recruit, prepare (train) and deploy men and women to fight the good fight of faith and demonstrate the love of God in both Words and in Actions.
It is the mature Christians that make a difference in peoples lives and bring about a Godly change in our world. During military training the recruits are first broken down by having their weakness exposed, then built up by being taught to work as a team. As Christians, if we don't have our weaknesses exposed and learn to look to God and His Word for our direction we will never come together as an effective force. We will just continue to be steeped in doctrines and compare ourselves to one another's philosophy's never making a real difference in the Kingdom of God.
This book clears an area of land in the believer by challenging beliefs and behaviors and ultimately exposing areas of immaturity. It then builds a foundation by giving the truth through the word of God and progressively builds upon the foundation in the same manner. This book is not theory but is based upon my real life experiences. Throughout it I share my personal struggles and how God exposed areas of immaturity that I never even knew existed. He then turned my weaknesses into strengths. This book will teach the believer practical applications that will bring maturity in many areas.
