The word Intervention speaks about taking action on one’s behalf. I typed the word “intervention” into an internet search engine and was surprised at what I found. I saw page after page of links to websites that offered a type of hope for people facing some bad and painful situations. Some spoke of intervention for drug and alcohol abuse, while others spoke of hope for victims of physical and sexual abuse.
The World has a fallen mindset of wait until you hit rock bottom and then take action. In my lifetime I have known several people who have been involved with drugs. One time in particular really sticks out. It had to do with a friend of mine who was taking prescription drugs. His mother knew and confronted him about it. I remember her calling me and we discussed her son’s problem. She was a nurse and she told me that her son would have to hit Rock Bottom before he could be helped. Surprisingly this was not the first time that I heard this from a parent speaking about a child who used drugs. I am always shocked by an attitude of just “give up and let society deal with it”. After all; it is a parent’s responsibility not societies.
I remember a song that I use to listen to, in my youth. It was about a 17 year old girl who was left to hit Rock Bottom before her parents would take any intervention to help her. It spoke of how peaceful she looked lying there asleep in her casket. Her rock bottom happened to be a fatal drug overdose. God has the only solution that believers should follow. God calls us to intervene before the bottom falls out, even before trouble begins. This is called the prayer of intercession.
At this point you might be thinking to yourself, how is intervening for others going to make me Mighty in the Lord? I believe that is the Essences (the Core) of what believers are to be doing. This is never praying your Will in a situation but seeking God’s Will in every situation and I do mean every situation.
Ephesians 6:18 - Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints (RSV)…
