Contemplation is something to think about….
What makes us think that we can be only partially committed to God and experience all that He has for us? Say for example you went to a friend’s house and you had one the best meals of your life: So you asked your friend for the recipe of the dish so that you could make it for your family. Would you expect the meal to turn out the same if you were only to put half of the ingredients in? If you had to drive 20 miles to work every day and there was no short cut, would you expect to get to work in only 10 miles? Of course not!
Why do some that are part of the body of Christ believe that we can serve Him with only part of our hearts? Why do we feel that we can keep a part of ourselves back from Him and believe that we are fully devoted to Him and His ways? Why do we let so many idols and distractions keep us from becoming fully intimate with Him.
How would you feel if your spouse kept part of themselves back from you?
Do you believe that if you met a brother or sister in need of food and clothes and said be warm and filled, but did not give them the things necessary to be warm and filled that you would be helping them? How would you feel if God was only as committed to you as you are to Him? How can we hold back anything from God and expect to walk in the fullness that He has for us. King Saul had a kingdom taken away from him because he was only partially obedient. That’s right 99 % is not full obedience. That sad thing is that most of us criticize king Saul for his lack of obedience but we don’t even come close to 99%.
“All in” is just that… it is all or nothing. We cannot effectively know or serve God as long as we hold a part of ourselves back from Him.
